Volunteering for the army is not one door but two, separated by your school certificate: the NCO school, which runs six months, and the personnel training school, which runs four. The certificate decides both the door and the rank.
Certificate and rank
- General secondary: appointed at the rank of sergeant.
- Post-secondary diploma: appointed at the rank of staff sergeant.
- Intermediate: appointed at the rank of lance corporal.
- Below secondary, such as a certified technical certificate: appointed at the rank of corporal.
The conditions
- Aged not less than eighteen and not more than twenty-six, with an exception for those holding vocational and technical qualifications.
- To have passed at least the fourth grade of primary school.
- Kuwaiti nationality, and medically and security cleared.
The file, and one requirement nobody expects
- The original civil ID and five copies.
- The original citizenship certificate and three copies, for anyone over eighteen.
- The birth certificate and three copies.
- A copy of the father’s citizenship certificate, and a copy of the mother’s.
- For married applicants: a copy of the marriage contract and a copy of the wife’s citizenship certificate.
- A letter from the Civil Service Commission.
- Ten photographs, 4 × 6, wearing ghutra and agal — not instant prints, not in profile, and without a beard.
Documents must be copied onto A4 paper, in good condition and valid at the time of submission.
Where and when
Bring the documents and fill in the forms at the Administration and Manpower Authority of the Ministry of Defence. The fees are zero: neither fixed nor variable.
