A specialty coffee shop that opens at 6 in the morning in Shuwaikh Industrial is not an accident. “ORU” calls its branch there “The Roastery” and describes it as the company’s heart and its specialty coffee hub, and it is the only branch that opens at the hour the whole district starts work.
Five branches, and each one has a job
The company describes itself as a Kuwaiti specialty coffee roastery operating since 2018, and lists its branches on its site as follows:
- ORU Shuwaikh — The Roastery: the heart, and the roasting hub.
- ORU The Fourth: the largest by floor area, described by the company as a different expression of ORU in atmosphere and design.
- ORU City in the capital: the newest, with a spare design.
- ORU at Al Hamra: a small unit on the first floor of Al Hamra mall, built for grab-and-go.
- ORU at Wafra Twin Towers: a stop in Kuwait City.
The split saves you the wrong trip: if you want to sit, go to The Fourth; if you want a cup on your way, go to Al Hamra; if you want beans and the roasting itself, go to Shuwaikh.
The numbers
The Shuwaikh branch opens at 6 in the morning, and average spend a head, as reported by twenty-eight people on Google Maps, falls between 1 and 5 dinars. The rating is 4.5 out of five from more than two hundred reviews. Phone 99613881, with dine-in, takeaway and no-contact delivery.
The beans are sold through the online shop: Colombia Supremo and Mexico Altura from 5 dinars, Uganda Mukoto and Colombia Passion Fruit at 7.5 dinars. The shop sorts them into four groups: limited releases, single origin, Japanese brewing boxes, and signature blends.
A warning about the maps
Searching “ORU” on Google Maps returns two results: “ORU The Roastery”, which is the working one, and “ORU Roasters”, which is permanently closed according to its own card. Aim for the first; the address is Plot 11, Shop 3, Street 3, Shuwaikh Industrial.
