Hear the name Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakeries Company and you think of the co-op loaf. But in its newer branches the company has opened a section of an entirely different kind: an artisan bakery baking fresh in front of the customer, rather than a production line distributing at dawn.
Where these branches are
Three locations are named on the company’s products page: Yarmouk, Fahad Al-Ahmad and Saad Al-Abdullah. The section is described as part of an expansion plan to widen the customer base.
What is baked there
- Butter croissant, cheese croissant with seeds, zaatar croissant, and a brown multigrain croissant.
- Zaatar cruffin with labneh — the cruffin being a bake that puts a croissant and a muffin into one shape.
- Muffins in various flavours, and chocolate and zaatar babka.
- Multigrain ciabatta.
And coffee, and sandwiches
In 2025 the company launched “Mataheen Coffee” in its branches, describing it as local specialty coffee, within a stated expansion into beverages. In 2026 it added “Mataheen Sandwiches”, describing it as a new concept in step with a modern lifestyle.
The slot you will not find elsewhere
The company runs a gluten-free plant that it describes as the first of its kind in the Middle East, making toast bread, burger buns, rolls and cupcakes, distributed around the country. Which means anyone avoiding wheat for a medical reason has a local alternative and not only an imported one.
For context
The company runs eight bakeries in Shaab, Kaifan, Khaitan, Jahra, Yarmouk, Shuwaikh, Rumaithiya and Ahmadi, and distributes through nine hundred outlets. The central Sabhan bakery, the source of the European-style products, has been running since 1979.
