The National Theatre at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre hosts “The Beatles: Symphonic Fantasy” in October, a production restaging the British band’s work in an orchestral arrangement by maestro Damien Maller.
What the production is
It involves four singers and thirteen musicians chosen by the Cavern Club in Liverpool — the same club the band came out of — performing the parts of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
The idea is not a tribute act. The orchestral arrangement rebuilds the songs with new scoring while keeping the melodies as the audience knows them.
The concert falls within a season in which the centre marks ten years since it opened in October, presenting a number of names appearing on its stages for the first time.
