1990 — An amiri order organises the government’s work from its temporary seat
On 30 August 1990, twenty-eight days into the Iraqi occupation, the amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah, issued an amiri order on the temporary seat of the government of Kuwait and some of the provisions governing its work.
The government was operating outside the country, and the order dealt with what follows from that: where the cabinet convenes, and how its decisions are issued while it is far from its seat in Kuwait.
1990 — Cairo hosts an emergency conference of Arab foreign ministers
On the same day, foreign ministers of fourteen Arab states met in Cairo to discuss ways of ending the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait. The meeting was boycotted by Tunisia, Sudan, Yemen, Mauritania, Jordan and the Palestine Liberation Organisation, along with Iraq.
2002 — Kuwait takes the eighth Asian youth handball title
The national handball team won the eighth Asian youth championship in Bangkok, beating Qatar 23-21 in the final.
2018 — Ali Al Kharafi and show jumping gold in Jakarta
The Kuwaiti rider Ali Al Kharafi won the gold medal in show jumping at the eighteenth Asian Games, held in the Indonesian capital Jakarta.
2019 — Kuwait Airways takes delivery of “Kadhima”
Kuwait Airways took delivery of its new aircraft “Kadhima”, an A320neo, as part of the plan to renew the airline’s fleet.
1986 — The cracking unit at Ahmadi refinery
The fluid catalytic cracking unit opened at Ahmadi refinery, one of the units in the second phase of the refinery modernisation project.

2010 — An international day for the victims of enforced disappearance
By resolution 65/209 of 21 December 2010, the UN General Assembly made 30 August the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, first observed in 2011.
It is a date that reads differently in Kuwait, because the file of Kuwaiti missing persons and prisoners has been open since 1990.
2021 — The last American aircraft leaves Kabul
The commander of US Central Command, General Frank McKenzie, announced that the last C-17 took off from Hamid Karzai International Airport on 30 August 2021, ending twenty years of American military presence in Afghanistan. More than 123,000 civilians had been evacuated on American and coalition aircraft.
1922 — Dumlupinar
On 30 August 1922 Turkish forces under Mustafa Kemal settled the decisive battle at Dumlupinar near Kutahya, encircling the Greek forces there. The date is still marked in Turkey as Victory Day.
