Large security sweeps are usually announced as one big number. The latest statement about a sweep in Mahboula, Ahmadi governorate, broke the number down — and the breakdown is what actually says something.
The big number
221 people wanted or in violation, 790 traffic citations, and nine vehicles sought.
How the 221 divides
- 109 people wanted in criminal and security cases.
- 62 people for expired residency.
- 31 people with no identification.
- 11 people in an abnormal state.
- Eight people for possession of narcotics and alcohol.
What the split tells you
Roughly half of those detained were already wanted in earlier cases, not offenders caught in the moment. The next third are residency and identity matters. Which makes the sweep, at its core, an exercise in executing existing orders rather than uncovering new offences.
The traffic citations, meanwhile, outnumber the people detained by nearly four to one — and they are recorded against vehicles, not people.
Who attended
The sweep was carried out in the presence of the governor of Ahmadi, Sheikh Hamoud Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah, supervised by the assistant undersecretary for public security affairs, Major General Hamad Al Munaifi, and the head of the traffic and operations affairs sector, Brigadier Ahmad Al Azmi. The ministry announced that legal measures would be taken against everyone detained and that they would be referred to the relevant authorities.
