The Public Works Lab Prices the Sample: Forty for Steel, Four for a Galvanised Fitting

A published table for every item — gypsum, chlorides, sand, pipes and insulation — with no variable charge at all.

The construction laboratories at the Ministry of Public Works test building materials for the private sector as they do for government bodies, and the fees are fixed and published per sample on Kuwait’s e-government portal. These are the figures.

Steel

  • Testing reinforcement mesh with three bars — per sample: forty dinars.
  • Dimension and tensile measurement for a reinforcement mesh sample: forty dinars as well.

The sample requirement is written down: a piece one metre by one metre, with three bars sixty centimetres long, tested against the American standard ASTM A496/A497 or the British BS 4482/4483.

Cement, lime and sand

  • Full chemical test on lime or gypsum: thirty-five dinars.
  • Chemical determination of the lime coefficient: fifteen dinars.
  • Finding the chloride content in cement: ten dinars.
  • Specific gravity of sand or aggregate: ten dinars.
  • Water absorption rate for sand and aggregate: ten dinars.

Pipes, fittings and insulation

  • Plastic pipes — dimensions: seven dinars.
  • Plastic pipes — softening point: fifteen dinars.
  • Tensile and elongation for a plastic pipe sample: forty dinars.
  • Galvanised fittings — dimensional measurement per fitting: four dinars, the lowest fee on the whole table.
  • Water vapour permeability for heat and moisture insulation materials: twenty-five dinars.
  • Dimension and tensile measurement for a sample of farasha: twenty dinars.
