Snap shows its SPECS glasses in a live stream on 16 September. They put the image directly in front of your eye rather than on a screen you hold.
The weight first
Two sizes: a hundred and thirty-two grams for the 47mm, and a hundred and thirty-six for the 52mm. The frame is Swiss TR90 polymer, and prescription lenses can be fitted. The weight is the decisive figure here: ordinary sunglasses are around thirty grams, so the difference is felt on the nose after an hour.
What you see
The display is liquid crystal on silicon, with a fifty-one degree field of view and sixteen million colours. The company describes the sensation as a twenty-four inch desktop monitor for work, or a hundred and fifteen inch cinema screen for watching. The lens shifts from clear to tinted in ten seconds.
Battery and processor
Two Snapdragon processors, one for computer vision and one for the lenses, with seven milliseconds of latency between movement and image. Running time is four hours of mixed use, and the charging case gives four more charges — twenty hours across a whole day.
Price and where they are sold
Two thousand one hundred and ninety-five dollars, with a refundable two hundred dollar reservation. Sales are in three countries only: the United States, Britain and France. Kuwait is not listed, either for sale or for pre-order.
