Anyone wanting to bring a wife or children to live with them in Kuwait needs the visa called an entry visa to join a sponsor, available to people working in both the government and private sectors. The fee is a fixed ten dinars.
The first condition: the salary
Ministerial decisions 1212 of 2004 and 3384 of 2016 set the same condition: a salary of no less than four hundred and fifty dinars, or that the applicant belongs to the exempted categories, of which there are fifteen occupations. So salary is not the only door; the occupation can stand in its place.
The documents
- The entry visa application form provided for it.
- A copy of the dependant’s passport, with no less than two years of validity — this clause defeats many applications, because a passport valid for a year and a half is not accepted.
- A copy of the sponsor’s civil ID.
- Proof of the relationship: a copy of the passport is accepted for anyone holding an Arab nationality; a non-Arab needs a certificate from the embassy.
- Proof of salary: a copy of the work permit for the private sector, or a salary certificate for the government sector.
Two special cases
- Article 19 holders: asked for a copy of the licence or the company contract.
- Article 24 holders: the matter goes to the discretion of the director general or assistant director general only — so the application is not decided by the clerk at the counter.
The steps
- Bring the documents to the General Department of Immigration.
- Fill in the service form, published on Kuwait’s portal.
- Pay the fee: ten dinars, with no variable charge.
