Team Xbox announced a change to its cloud streaming service on 3 September 2026: from November, each subscription tier gets a fixed number of hours per month, where streaming previously had no monthly limit for eligible subscribers.
The numbers
Ultimate 15 hours a month. Premium 10 hours. Essential 5 hours.
Microsoft says it expects the change to affect four per cent of Game Pass subscribers — that is, it describes the measure as aimed at heavy use rather than ordinary use.
And after the hours run out
Subscribers buy extra cloud playtime from the Xbox Store. The company says the number of hours, the purchase options and the features vary by market.
Also from November, cloud playtime can be bought with no Game Pass subscription at all, to stream eligible games the player already owns.
The reason, in the company’s words
Its phrasing is that the cost of providing cloud gaming grows as more people use it and play for longer. That is the most honest line in the announcement: the service runs on real servers, and every hour of streaming has a price.
What has not been announced
The price of the extra hours, which games are cloud-eligible, which markets can buy, and how a player checks their remaining time — Microsoft says all of it comes in November.
And in Kuwait
Here we have to be plain. The supported countries page on the Xbox site lists Kuwait as not supported for the Series X, Series S, One X and One S consoles. The cloud gaming country list specifically we could not read: the page is built in JavaScript and does not yield the full list, and its dedicated support page no longer works.
So what we can say is this: Xbox does not list Kuwait among the official markets for its consoles, and we could not confirm where it stands on cloud streaming. Anyone subscribing through another store’s region is on their own there.
For comparison, Xcite Kuwait lists a one-month Game Pass Ultimate subscription from the European store at 4.900 dinars. That is a European store key, and we do not know whether it confers cloud streaming rights on a Kuwaiti account.
What the analysts said
Windows Central, on 3 September, tied the tiers to their US prices: Essential $9.99, Premium $14.99 and Ultimate $22.99 a month, and noted that purchased playtime bundles do not expire and need no active subscription. 9to5Google, the same day, read the move as a shift from an unlimited model towards charging for heavy use.
