Iraqi troops deployed in Kuwait numbered around 360,000, with 2,800 tanks, 1,800 light armoured vehicles and 1,540 artillery pieces.
1990 — Kuwait asks the General Assembly to take up the invasion
Kuwait formally asked the UN General Assembly to add a new item on Iraq’s invasion and occupation of its territory to the agenda of its annual session.
1996 — Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah dies at ninety-six
Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah died at 96. He left a lasting mark on the building of Kuwaiti education, and also headed the municipality and judicial affairs.
2000 — Kuwait made a vice-president of the IAEA General Conference
The General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency elected Kuwait, represented by Ambassador Nabeela Al-Mulla, a vice-president of its 44th session in Vienna.
2001 — Kuwait and Japan end the Arabian Oil Company concession
Kuwait and Japan agreed to end the exploration and concession rights granted to the Arabian Oil Company in the offshore Divided Zone, held since 1958, with effect from 4 January 2003.
2020 — The Legion of Merit, Degree Chief Commander, for Amir Sabah Al-Ahmad
The White House announced the award of the Legion of Merit, Degree Chief Commander, to the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The statement noted the decoration is rarely given, and had last been bestowed in 1991.

1961 — UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld is killed near Ndola
Dag Hammarskjöld died at 56 when his aircraft came down near Ndola, while flying to talks on the Katanga secession crisis in the Congo. He was Secretary-General through the 1961 crisis over Kuwait’s independence.
1978 — Carter presents the Camp David frameworks to Congress
President Jimmy Carter addressed a joint session of Congress to set out the two Camp David frameworks, with Egypt’s President Anwar Sadat and Israel’s Prime Minister Menachem Begin present. The accords themselves had been signed the day before.
