1980 — The general mobilisation law

Decree-law 65 on general mobilisation was issued: it is declared by decree when international relations are strained or war threatens, and lifted by decree once the cause has passed.

1992 — The stock exchange reopens after the invasion

Commerce and Industry Minister Abdullah Al-Jarallah reopened the Kuwait Stock Exchange after a two-year halt. The first trade was five thousand National Bank of Kuwait shares at 810 fils.

1995 — Relations with the Marshall Islands

Kuwait established diplomatic relations with the Republic of the Marshall Islands in the Pacific.

1998 — A first at Adan Hospital

Adan Hospital performed Kuwait’s first laparoscopic removal of a benign stomach tumour.

2009 — Parliament sends its first all-women delegation

The National Assembly attended the Inter-Parliamentary Union conference in Geneva with an all-women delegation for the first time: Dr Massouma Al-Mubarak and Dr Aseel Al-Awadhi.

2013 — Municipal Council elections

Voters went to the polls to elect ten members of the Municipal Council.

2015 — An international award for Kuwait Oil Company

Kuwait Oil Company won an international excellence award for reducing gas flaring.
