Women’s Housing Files: Update Yours Before 19 October or Lose It

Roughly 4,700 of about 7,100 registered applications have not met the new requirement, and any left that way is dropped from the ballot.

Kuwait’s women’s housing committee, part of the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, has drawn lots for 370 rented government houses in Tayma and Sulaibiya. Only applications registered in 2020 or earlier went into the draw, and only those whose details had been brought up to date and met the conditions.

The date that matters

The committee opened a three-month window in July. It closes on 19 October. Its chair, Sheikha Bibi Al-Yousef, said an application not updated by then is dropped, and its holder is left out of the draw.

How many are still short

There are about 7,111 applications on the committee’s books. As of 19 July, only around 2,400 had been updated. That leaves more than 4,700 outside the requirement, some of them files opened in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s and never touched since.

Disability priority

An applicant with a disability is credited with priority dated five years before her actual application, provided she files a current certificate showing the disability is moderate or severe. A mild disability does not qualify.

If the house is not fit

Where a distributed house turns out to be unfit, a dedicated committee inspects it and, if the finding stands, the house is swapped directly. How many houses go out in a round depends on what the supplying bodies hand over, and the committee says new housing must have its infrastructure and services in place, schools, clinics and co-ops among them, before anyone moves in.
