Kuwait Municipality is preparing to publish the list of unsafe buildings in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh in the official gazette, Kuwait Al-Youm. From the day it appears, each owner has two weeks to start demolishing. Owners who do nothing will find the Municipality doing it for them.
How many buildings
The Ministry of Public Works inspected 286 properties after the security sweep of the area. Of those, 263 were found to be at risk of collapse. The rest were 4 new buildings, 1 under restoration, 16 empty plots and 2 under construction.
Why the gazette
The Municipality could not trace some of the owners to tell them the result of the inspection. Publication in the gazette counts as formal notice, whether or not the owner sees it. The inspection found the buildings a danger to the people living in them, to passers-by and to neighbours.
What it means for you
If you own property in Jleeb, watch the gazette over the coming days. The two weeks run from the publication date, not from the day you hear about it.
If you rent in one of these buildings, two weeks after publication is not long. Start looking for somewhere else now.
