On 6 September the General Traffic Department began a service that lets a vehicle owner serve an impoundment period at home rather than surrender the car to an impound garage. A tracking device is fitted to the vehicle at the same place where the violation was recorded, and the car stays with its owner for the whole period.
The fees
- KD 10 to fit the device, paid once.
- KD 2 for every day of the impoundment.
When the clock starts
The period is counted from midnight on the day of the violation, not from the hour the device is fitted.
If the car is already in the garage
An owner whose vehicle was impounded before the service began can move it home to serve the remainder of the period.
When the period ends
The notice arrives through the Sahel app, and the owner then attends the location the General Traffic Department designates to complete the release and have the device removed.
