This is not a mall cafeteria. It is a neighbourhood one, inside the Al-Salam co-operative in Abdullah Al-Salem, with a second branch in Hateen. Its menu now sits on a digital ordering platform: 138 items at the Dhahiya branch and 128 at Hateen, at identical prices.
It is run by Seazen Group, a Kuwaiti company founded by the brothers Mohammad N. AlDhubaib and Mohammad J. AlDhubaib after a year’s apprenticeship in the kitchen of the Sicilian chef Nino Trapani. As for “since 1973”, that is the restaurant’s own slogan on its platform; we found no Kuwaiti daily and no record behind it, so we report it as they say it, not as established.
The floor. The cheapest item on the whole list is a red potato sandwich at 0.250. Every soft drink and the small water are 0.200 each.
Saj. Mixed saj is exactly half a dinar; potato and aubergine 0.450; zaatar 0.600; white cheese 0.800; halloumi, kashkawan and mixed cheese one dinar.
Shawarma. Chicken samoon 0.600, meat 0.650. On khobz 0.650 and 0.750; on saj 1.000 and 1.100; on grilled bread 1.300 and 1.350. The platter is 3.500 chicken and 3.750 beef, and the meal on grilled bread 2.900.
Fatayer. Between 0.500 and 0.700 each, labneh cheapest and sausage-and-cheese dearest. Half a dozen 1.500, a dozen 2.750.
Grills and breakfast. A whole grilled chicken 2.750, half 1.400; kebab on khobz 0.800; tawook on saj 1.350; the mixed grill meal 2.500. A bowl of foul is 0.600, mosabbaha and qudsia 0.750 each, labneh one dinar. Every mezze — hummus, mutabbal, tabbouleh, fattoush, tahini, garlic — is 0.750, without exception.
The ceiling is boxes. The Diwaniyah grilled-bread box 7.950, the saj shawarma box for four 7.750, the fatayer box 6.500, the Dhahiya breakfast box 4.950.
Add-ons are counted in fils: extra sambousa fifty fils, extra fries fifty, extra labneh 0.150, the house sauce 0.250. Pizza is a Hateen-only line, and every one of them is 1.950 medium.
