Foreign Ministry to hire 30 diplomatic and consular attachés; applications open 15 November

Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday 1 November 2026 that it will fill 30 posts at the rank of diplomatic attaché and consular attaché. The posts are open to Kuwaiti men and women holding a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate, under Article 18 of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps Law. Applications are online only, from Sunday 15 November to Tuesday 15 December 2026.

Which degrees count

Political science, international relations, economics, law and media, including their sub-fields.

Who can apply

  • Kuwaiti nationals with full legal capacity and a clean record: no felony conviction, and no misdemeanour involving honour or trust unless rehabilitated.
  • Not previously dismissed from public service by a court ruling or a disciplinary board.
  • Not married to a woman who is a national of a non-Arab country.
  • Medically fit for diplomatic and consular work.
  • Age at the time of applying: no more than 24 with a bachelor’s, 26 with a master’s, 28 with a doctorate.
  • A grade of at least “very good”: 80%, or 2.67 on a 4-point scale, or the equivalent on the European scale recognised by the Ministry of Higher Education. The degree must come from Kuwait University or a recognised university with a ministry equivalency. Master’s and doctorate holders need the same grade on their higher degree too, in the same field as their bachelor’s or another listed field.
  • English: at least 6 in IELTS (Academic or General Training), 67 in the TOEFL iBT, or 543 in the local TOEFL iTP, with a result no older than two years.

Applying

Applications go through the ministry’s dedicated platform at jobs.mofa.gov.kw and nowhere else. Every document is uploaded as a PDF:

  • A recent nationality certificate from the Sahel app.
  • Your civil ID from the Kuwait Mobile ID (Hawyti) app.
  • A copy of your birth certificate.
  • A recent marital status certificate from Sahel (not married, or currently married).
  • A recent certificate from Sahel issued by the Public Institution for Social Security.
  • Your degree showing the graduation GPA, plus your transcript. Graduates of foreign universities attach an attested degree with its Higher Education equivalency, and the same for a master’s or doctorate.
  • A 4×6 personal photograph.

Tests, training and pay

The written test is on Saturday 16 January 2027 at 10:00am at the ministry’s headquarters on Arabian Gulf Street in Sharq. Arrive by 9:00am with your civil ID, in formal dress. The pass mark is 75%. Those who pass sit a personal interview, and candidates are ranked on both scores combined; on a tie, the earlier graduate goes first, then the older candidate.

Those selected join a 12-month programme at the Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah Kuwait Diplomatic Institute, where the pass mark is 70%. Trainees are not yet ministry employees, but receive a monthly allowance of KD 900. Graduates of the programme are appointed by ministerial decision once the Diplomatic and Consular Corps Council approves, and count as confirmed in post from the date of that decision.
