Dasma Theatre reopens after renovation, with a folk-wedding horror comedy until 7 November

Dasma Theatre is open to audiences again after a renovation inside and out. The first production on its stage, the folk-wedding horror comedy Al-Taqaqa Noura: The Jinn’s Wedding, opened last night, Thursday 29 October.

When it plays

Performances continue tonight, Friday 30 October, and tomorrow, Saturday 31 October, then return from 5 to 7 November. The producers have announced an 8pm start.

Under the booking terms, doors open 20 minutes before the time printed on the ticket, the show begins 15 minutes after it, and the doors close to general entry 10 minutes into the performance.

Before you book

  • Tickets are sold through Eventat and are non-refundable.
  • The show has comic horror scenes and sound and light effects. It is meant for adults, and the producers advise against bringing young children.
  • Wheelchair users get 50% off in the designated spaces, subject to availability.
  • VIP seats include coffee and tea. Photography is not allowed during the show, and the theatre has separate prayer rooms for men and women.

The production

The play is written by Dr Abdulaziz Al-Musallam and directed by Mohammad Abdulaziz Al-Musallam. Huda Hussein leads a cast that includes Mohammad Al-Ojaimi, Mais Kamar and Meshal Al-Shaye, with the Al-Salam folk troupe. It borrows the setting of a traditional Kuwaiti wedding and turns it into mystery, horror and comedy, with song and dance.

The renovation was carried out by Al-Salam First General Trading and Contracting, which won the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters tender for the theatre.
