The prevention sector at the General Fire Force is the door everyone passes through who builds, opens a shop or imports a fire system. The sector has added new services and announced a time limit on its transactions.
Five working days
The stated rule: the time to complete a transaction does not exceed five working days from the date of submission, where there are no technical or documentary observations. So it is the observation, not the queue, that lengthens the wait.
Two doors, not one
The sector’s online services are split in two, and the two are not interchangeable:
- Services for engineering houses, offices and contractors.
- General services for the public.
Each has its own user registration, and each its own route for recovering a lost account.
What is new in the sector
- Checking the licence status of buildings on a plot — you learn where your plot stands without going in.
- Companies approved under the new fire contractors system — a list to check before contracting.
- Release permits, with a form classifying systems and equipment by section.
- A request to transfer company transactions to the sector’s new system.
A centre for small and medium enterprises
The sector has opened a services centre for the small and medium enterprise sector — an acknowledgement that a small business owner has no engineering office following things up for them, and needs a shorter door.
Before you start
The sector has a page of guidance for building licence transactions that it advises reading before applying, since most delay comes from a documentary observation that could have been avoided.
