Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah opened a new exhibition at the Amricani Cultural Centre on Gulf Road on the evening of Wednesday 7 October 2026, and it has been open to the public since Thursday 8 October. Its Arabic title is Al-Ihsan: The Making of Beauty in Mosques (the museum’s English site lists it as “Insan”). It shows 17 objects from The al-Sabah Collection, and entry is free.

Weekend hours

The museum is closed on Sundays and opens 10:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday to Thursday. The centre’s phone number is 2240 0992.

A show that started with children

The idea came from children aged 6 to 12 in the museum’s children’s art workshop, and it began with one question: is there art in a mosque? They visited the Al-Sayer Al-Qibli mosque to look at its architecture up close, and then asked how the pieces were made and why anyone would spend so much effort making a functional object beautiful.

The project took nearly two years. The children chose and discussed the objects themselves, studied how they were made with craftspeople trained at Bayt Jameel for traditional arts in Cairo, and worked with artist Mashael Al-Tarabulsi on a calligrapher’s tools and the stages of producing a page of a Quran manuscript. Their answer was ihsan: doing your work in the best and most beautiful way you can.

It is the fourth exhibition the workshop’s children have put on at the museum, coordinated by engineer Maha Al-Essa.
