Lose your Kuwaiti passport and the replacement now costs KD 100

A ministerial decision in the official gazette sets a separate charge; routine renewal is untouched

Kuwait has put a separate price on replacing a lost Kuwaiti passport: KD 100. The decision, signed by First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, appeared in the official gazette, Kuwait Al-Youm.

It amends one line, clause three of article two, in Ministerial Decision No. 20 of 1971, the order that sets fees for the General Department of Nationality and Travel Documents. As reported today, nothing else in that schedule was changed.

What this means for a citizen who loses a passport

When we checked the government portal’s service page in September, a lost-passport replacement carried no special charge: it cost the same as any passport, KD 3 for five years of validity or KD 6 for ten. The replacement now has its own fee, KD 100.

The procedure itself is not touched by the decision. The holder still appears in person at the nationality department to explain where and how the passport was lost, publishes a loss notice in Kuwait Al-Youm, submits a written statement, and waits out the five-month period before the new passport is issued. Our earlier guide walks through each step.

Damaged is not lost

A damaged passport follows a different route, with no gazette notice and no waiting period, and the published decision does not mention it.

Still unclear

The coverage does not say when the new fee takes effect, or whether Circular No. 159 of 2017, which waives passport fees for citizens with disabilities and those aged 65 and over, still applies to it. Anyone who needs a replacement soon should ask the department before paying.
