A restaurant pack is not a household pack. Shops that specialise in frozen goods sell in the sizes restaurants buy in, and that changes the price per kilo entirely. Here is a sample of the prices published by “Makani Foods”, a Kuwaiti online shop specialising in frozen food.
The prices as published
- Large prawns, 16 to 20 pieces per kilo: from 3.100 KD a kilo.
- Boneless beef brisket, prime grade: 6.500 KD a kilo.
- Regular french fries, 2.5 kg: from 1.930 KD a bag.
- Breaded chicken pieces, 750 g: from 1.450 KD.
- Sweetcorn kernels, 2.5 kg: from 2.500 KD.
“From” means the price shifts with the size chosen within the same item, so note that the figure shown in the listing is the lowest of the possibilities and not a single price.
What the shop sells
The frozen section covers poultry, beef, veal, buffalo, fish and lamb; potatoes and appetisers; vegetables and fruit; pasta and pizza; bakery and desserts; cheese and butter. A second chilled and dry section carries spices, grains, nuts, canned goods, cooking oils, dairy, drinks and breakfast cereals.
The delivery threshold
Same-day delivery is free once an order reaches 20 dinars or more. That threshold is what makes buying in bulk make sense: a small order gives the price advantage back in delivery.
A warning on the site itself
The shop posts a notice to visitors that it is the only official site, and flags the existence of impostor sites using its name. That is worth attention on any online purchase: check the address before you enter your details, not after.
