A ministerial decision issued on 27 August sets new prices — lower in many cases — for five hundred and seventeen medicines and pharmaceutical preparations.
What it covers
The therapeutic categories are varied: cancer drugs, the newer cholesterol-lowering medicines, epilepsy treatments, allergy treatments and pain relief. With them, antibiotics and antifungals, and the medicines that help people stop smoking.
The bigger number
With this decision, the total covered by pricing and reduction decisions over the past three years rises to two thousand seven hundred and sixty medicines and preparations. The ministry describes these prices as the lowest in the Gulf.
On what basis
The ministry says the decision followed technical reviews and periodic price studies, compared against reference markets and against Gulf and international standards, with the criteria for quality, efficacy and pharmaceutical safety unchanged.
It added that it will continue developing pricing policy and strengthening its oversight system, to ensure the approved prices are adhered to and the local medicines market stays stable.
