Riyadh airport stays shut: what Kuwait travellers should do

Saudi civil aviation extended the suspension with no reopening date, and the national carrier has already cancelled two flights

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation on Monday 12 October extended the suspension of operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, saying it needs more time to confirm the airport’s facilities are safe and ready after the attack on it. No reopening date was given.

Flights between Kuwait and Riyadh

Kuwait Airways cancelled both legs of its Riyadh service on Sunday, KU775 out of Kuwait and KU776 back, because of the same suspension. The airline said passengers are being told about changes by text message to the phone number on their booking, and that updates go out on its official channels.

If you are booked to Riyadh

  • Check that the phone number on your booking is current; that is where the alerts arrive.
  • Check your flight’s status with the airline before you leave for the airport.
  • Ask the airline about rebooking or a refund before buying a new ticket yourself.
