Unemployment insurance covers the insured in the private and oil sectors, not the government sector. These are its conditions and figures as the Public Institution for Social Security’s guide publishes them.
The rule that costs you if you miss it
Compensation is due from the eighth day after service ends, provided you register your name with the Public Authority for Manpower within thirty days. Miss that and it runs not from the eighth day but from the date you file. Let six months pass without registering and the right lapses entirely.
The conditions
- Not under 18 and not over 60.
- Able to work.
- Not running a licensed commercial activity in your own name.
- Not entitled to a retirement pension.
The amount and the term
- 60% of the salary on which the pension is calculated, plus the pension on the supplementary-insurance balance and the increases set for workers in those sectors.
- Six months at most per entitlement.
- Contributions: six consecutive months for a first claim, eighteen months for a second, thirty-six for any later one, with the last six continuous and immediately preceding.
What suspends it and what ends it
Payment is suspended if you refuse suitable work, refuse the training course Manpower assigns you, work for yourself, take a job with someone else — you then receive only the difference — or miss review appointments or withhold documents. The right lapses altogether on refusing suitable work twice, refusing assigned training twice, or becoming entitled to a pension. The compensation cannot be combined with any other periodic payment from the public treasury, and cannot be seized or assigned except for a maintenance debt, and then only up to a quarter.
What the guide does not say
The guide summarises the law rather than the screens: no document list, no portal steps, no phone number. It carries no date. Registration itself happens at the Public Authority for Manpower, whose site we could not reach to verify the procedure — ask through Sahel or at the authority before relying on the thirty-day window.
