1962 — An Amiri decree founds the Kuwait Transport Company
Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued Amiri Decree No. 60 of 1962 establishing the Kuwait Transport Company, with capital of two million Kuwaiti dinars.
1991 — A ten-year Kuwait–United States defence agreement
Kuwait and the United States signed a ten-year defence co-operation agreement, its provisions covering the defence of Kuwait’s sovereignty and independence against external attack.
1994 — Kuwait signs the Convention on Nuclear Safety
Kuwait signed the Convention on Nuclear Safety in Vienna. The IAEA had opened the convention for signature at its headquarters that same day, having adopted it on 17 June of the same year.
1999 — Al-Jarallah made a vice-president of the WHO regional session
Health Minister Dr Mohammad Al-Jarallah was elected a vice-president of the 46th session of the World Health Organization’s Eastern Mediterranean Regional Committee, held in Cairo.
2000 — Kuwait’s first Olympic medal
The shooter Fehaid Al-Deehani won Kuwait’s first Olympic medal, taking third place in the men’s double trap at the 27th Olympic Games in Sydney. Britain’s Richard Faulds took gold and Australia’s Russell Mark silver.

1960 — A wave of newly independent African states joins the UN
The United Nations admitted a group of newly independent African states on a single day, among them Cameroon, Chad, Senegal, Niger, Togo, Gabon, Madagascar, Côte d’Ivoire, the Central African Republic and the Congo. Kuwait had joined on 14 May 1963.
2001 — Bush addresses Congress after the September attacks
President George W. Bush addressed a joint session of Congress on the American response to the attacks of the 11th, speaking at 9 p.m. in the House Chamber of the Capitol.
2017 — Hurricane Maria strikes Puerto Rico
Hurricane Maria made landfall on Puerto Rico’s south-east coast near Yabucoa at about 10:15 UTC, with maximum winds around 135 knots.
