Kuwait began enumerating and registering its population under the civil information system, in preparation for issuing the civil ID card, with the aim of holding current data on population movement.
1996 — The Grand Mosque public library opens
The public library of the Grand Mosque opened, serving mosque-goers in particular and the public in general, with facilities for research and self-education alongside religious instruction.
2003 — Ali Al-Zankawi takes hammer gold in Asia
Kuwait’s hammer champion Ali Al-Zankawi won gold at the 15th Asian Athletics Championships, held in the Philippines.
2008 — Al-Arabi win the first Kuwaiti Super Cup
Al-Arabi won the first edition of the Kuwaiti Super Cup, beating Kuwait SC by a single goal.

1971 — Qatar joins the United Nations
The UN General Assembly adopted resolution 2753 admitting the State of Qatar to membership, at its 1934th plenary meeting.
2014 — The Peace and National Partnership Agreement is signed in Yemen
Yemeni parties signed the Peace and National Partnership Agreement in Sanaa under United Nations auspices. The UN Peacemaker database holds the text in Arabic and English under that same date.
2001 — The date is fixed as the International Day of Peace
In 2001 the General Assembly adopted the resolution fixing 21 September as the annual International Day of Peace, devoted to ceasefire and non-violence. The day had first been established in 1981.
