1973 — The Kuwait International Investment Company is founded
A Kuwaiti shareholding company, the Kuwait International Investment Company, was founded with capital of ten million Kuwaiti dinars. The company’s own site records its establishment by Amiri decree on this date, and its conversion in 2016 into a closed holding company.
1992 — A decree abolishes the General Authority for the South and the Arabian Gulf
Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued Decree-Law No. 119 of 1992 abolishing the General Authority for the South and the Arabian Gulf, transferring its functions to the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and setting up an office to wind it up.
1995 — Kuwait signs the convention to combat desertification
Kuwait signed the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, adopted in Paris in 1994, and ratified it on 27 June 1997 according to the UN treaty register.
1999 — UNESCO honours Kuwait’s national education commission
UNESCO conferred an honour on the secretary-general of the Kuwait National Commission for Education, Science and Culture.

1969 — The first Islamic Summit meets in Rabat
The first Islamic Summit Conference opened in Rabat, Morocco, and ran to the 25th of the same month. It was convened at the invitation of King Hassan II following the fire at Al-Aqsa Mosque, and twenty-five states took part.
1980 — The Iran–Iraq war begins
War broke out between Iraq and Iran and lasted eight years, ending on 20 August 1988. Kuwait was among the neighbouring states reached by its effects in its later years.
1968 — The Abu Simbel relocation is completed
The UNESCO-led project to move the temples of Abu Simbel in southern Egypt was officially declared finished, after eight years in which some twenty colossal monuments were moved clear of the Nile.
