1962 — Abdulaziz Hamada, who first proposed an endowments office, dies
Sheikh Abdulaziz Hamada, one of Kuwait’s best-known religious scholars, died aged sixty-eight. He had served as judge, teacher, imam and preacher, and in 1948 was the first to propose an endowments department to safeguard and invest orphans’ money.
1977 — Kuwait joins the Arab Mining Organisation
Kuwait approved the agreement establishing the Arab Organisation for Mineral Resources, signed in Rabat on 15 July that year.
1990 — The Amir addresses the 45th UN General Assembly
Speaking at the General Assembly in New York, Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah thanked member states that had stood by Kuwait against the Iraqi invasion, and said he still hoped the Gulf crisis could be settled peacefully.
1992 — A decree creates the Centre for Research and Studies on Kuwait
Decree 178 of 1992 set up the Centre for Research and Studies on Kuwait under the Council of Ministers, as a national source on Kuwait’s history and affairs and a home for collecting and studying documents of the Iraqi invasion.
1994 — Kuwait founds its Police Academy
Decree 200 of 1994 established the Police Academy, and a ministerial decision the same year made the course a full four years leading to a bachelor’s degree in police science. In 1997 it was renamed the Saad Al-Abdullah Academy for Security Sciences.
1995 — A seismic survey across 4,800 square kilometres
An agreement was signed for a two-dimensional seismic survey to explore for oil, covering Kuwait’s known fields over 4,800 square kilometres.
2010 — Eight medals for Kuwait’s archers
Kuwait’s archery team won eight medals — one gold, five silver and two bronze — at the eighth Arab Archery Championship in Sirte, Libya. Falih Al-Askar took the gold.
