1976 — An earthquake south-east of Ahmadi
Kuwait felt an earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale, centred south-east of Ahmadi, at 2:23 in the morning.
1977 — Kuwait joins the African Development Fund
Decree-law 127 of 1977, issued by Deputy Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, approved Kuwait’s accession to the African Development Fund and made the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development its representative.
1986 — The stock exchange opens its main trading floor
The main trading hall of the Kuwait Stock Exchange opened.
1990 — Kuwait and Iraq clash at the Arab League
A heated exchange broke out between the Kuwaiti and Iraqi delegations at the Arab League council in Tunis after Iraq’s envoy formally protested against Kuwait’s presence at the session.
1997 — Kuwait and Bahrain link their exchanges
The Kuwait Stock Exchange signed a cooperation agreement with the Bahrain Stock Exchange on the regulation and trading of securities in both markets.
2000 — The UN approves compensation for Kuwait’s oil industry
The UN approved compensation of 90.15 billion dollars to Kuwait for damage its oil industry suffered in the 1990 Iraqi invasion.
2005 — Japan is allowed to buy its embassy plot in West Mishref
Decree 246 of 2005 allowed the Embassy of Japan to buy plots 11 and 12 of block A in the West Mishref diplomatic area — six thousand square metres — at a price set by the Ministry of Finance, to build its embassy.
