1954 — A decree creates the national cinema company
Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued an Amiri decree founding the Kuwait National Cinema Company, to run the business of film, entertainment and culture in the country.
1961 — Kuwait’s first ambassador to Saudi Arabia
An Amiri order appointed Issa Abdullatif Al-Abduljaleel as Kuwait’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
1961 — Jameel Al-Hujailan presents his credentials
The Saudi ambassador Jameel bin Ibrahim Al-Hujailan presented his credentials to the Amir, becoming the first ambassador accredited to Kuwait after independence.
1964 — Kuwait at the second Non-Aligned summit
Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah attended the second Non-Aligned Movement summit in Cairo, with a delegation that included Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Kuwait’s ambassador in Cairo, Abdulaziz Hussein.
1977 — The standards decree
Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued decree-law 128 of 1977 on standardisation, which set up a specifications and measurements department inside the Ministry of Commerce and Industry as the reference point for production quality.
1980 — Abdulrazzaq Al-Adwani takes over Kuwait University
Dr Abdulrazzaq Al-Adwani became the fifth head of Kuwait University and its second Kuwaiti one, staying in post until the end of June 1985.
1992 — The first parliamentary vote after liberation
Eighty-one thousand four hundred and forty voters went to the polls to choose fifty members of the National Assembly for its seventh legislative term, from two hundred and seventy-eight candidates — the first parliamentary election held after the country was liberated.
1996 — A supreme council for the environment authority
Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued decree 215 of 1996 forming the supreme council of the Environment Public Authority, chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, with ten members including six ministers.
2010 — A Kuwaiti cultural centre opens in Bangkok
The Kuwait Cultural Centre, attached to the social welfare society in Thailand, opened in Bangkok. It was built with a donation from the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and a number of Kuwaiti donors.
