1957 — the Popular Theatre Troupe opens its season

The troupe opened its season with two plays, «Summer Rain» and «Your Mother Is First Class», staged across five consecutive performances.

1961 — Britain’s first ambassador to Kuwait

Richmond presented his credentials to the Amir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, as the first British ambassador to Kuwait after independence.

1992 — the press and publications law amended

The Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, issued decree-law 134 of 1992. Its first article struck out Article 35 bis of law 3 of 1961, along with every reference to it elsewhere in the law.

1996 — the eighth legislative term elected

Some 107,169 voters went to the ballot boxes to choose 50 members from 230 candidates for the National Assembly. Eighteen of those elected were entering the chamber for the first time.

2003 — UNIKOM closes down

The United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission ended its work after twelve years spent shoring up security and stability along the border between the two countries.

2006 — Brazil play at Kuwait Sporting Club

The Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, was patron of the club’s forty-fifth anniversary, marked with a packed match between the club and the Brazil national team. Brazil won four-nil, and Pele took part.
