Primary School Enrolment Closes 30 September

The door has been open since the first of April, the service is online for the parent, and before it a health file with an appointment booked ahead.

There is one line in the Ministry of Education’s calendar that concerns every household with a child starting school this year: enrolment of new pupils in the primary stage, open from 1 April to 30 September 2026.

Where it is done

The ministry lists enrolment among its online services as “registration of new pupils — kindergarten and primary”, and says the service is available to the parent during the permitted registration periods only. Which is to say it opens and closes by date, not on request.

And before enrolment: the health file

A new pupil needs a health file, and that is opened at designated Ministry of Health centres, with an appointment booked before turning up. Anyone who leaves this step to the end of the month may find the slots crowded.

For children already in kindergarten

The same calendar gives two dates for transferring children’s files from kindergarten to primary schools: 23 April for public education and 30 April for special education, specifically Al Ataa kindergarten and autism provision.

So a child in a government kindergarten has their file transferred administratively — which is a different thing from enrolling a pupil entering school for the first time.

Useful to know

The Ministry of Education is in South Surra, the ministries district, working Sunday to Thursday, 7:30 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon.

The full calendar is published on the ministry’s site under “ministry calendar”, and it carries every date of the school year, not this one alone.
