Organising a Telegram group used to run through bots: you wanted a welcome message so you added a bot, you wanted a button so you wrote code. The latest update moves the first half of that inside the app itself.
The welcome message
The owner of a group or channel can write a message that only a new arrival sees. No existing member sees it, and no bot is needed. The path: the group profile, then edit, then welcome message.
And it is not a single line: it accepts more than one message, it accepts media, and it accepts full formatting including tables and media embedded inside the text.
Buttons inside the text
A button is no longer a strip beneath the message; it now sits inside the message text itself, in groups, channels and one-to-one chats. The idea is to build a sequence — a poll, a quiz, a product order — that several people interact with at the same time inside the group.
This one still needs a developer: it is built through the bot interface, not from the app settings.
Files inside the paragraph
The rich text editor now allows a file, a document or an audio clip to be placed inside the block of text rather than as a separate attachment below it. The option appears once the text passes three lines, and inserting takes two taps.
And two smaller details
- Signed gifts: buying a gift from the market now accepts a note and a signature from the sender, and both appear with the gift.
- Update prompt: anyone on an old version of the app now gets a panel asking them to update, rather than seeing the feature half-working.
The features are available on every platform according to the company’s announcement.
