Incense in the wardrobe: Kuwait Fire Force warns of sparks catching clothes
Never leave a lit mabkhara unattended, keep it away from curtains and furniture, and out of reach of children.

Kuwait’s General Fire Force has warned against leaving bakhoor burning unattended, especially when the mabkhara (incense burner) is placed inside a wardrobe to scent the clothes. A spark can jump from the coals to the fabric and start a fire.
The warning came in an awareness video on the Fire Force’s accounts. It acknowledged that incense is part of daily life in Kuwaiti homes, but said it has to be handled with care.
What the Fire Force advises
- Do not leave a lit mabkhara unattended.
- Do not leave it burning inside a wardrobe without keeping an eye on it.
- Keep it away from clothes, curtains, furniture and anything else that catches easily.
- Keep incense and burners out of children’s reach.
The video gave no figure for fires caused by incense burners. Kuwait’s emergency number is 112.
