Kuwait’s list of places that are still open after dinner is shorter than you would think. The museums shut their doors at five. Many parks go dark before ten. The Avenues states its hours on its own front page: 10am to 11pm.
Getting there
It sits in Al-Rai on the Fifth Ring Road, between Al-Ghazali Street and Mohammed Bin Al-Qasem Street. The published telephone number is 1888868. There is no admission charge.
Use the interactive map on the mall’s site, or the same map inside its app, before you set off. This is not a courtesy — the walk from one end of the building to the other is long enough that entering at the wrong door costs you a quarter of an hour.
What is inside
The mall sorts its tenants by trade rather than by building: apparel, automotive, banks and financial services, beauty and cosmetics, bookshops and stationery, department stores, electronics, gifts and antiques, a gym, home and furniture, jewellery and accessories, a medical centre, opticians, a pharmacy, shoes and bags, spa and salon, specialist shops, supermarket and grocery, telecommunications, toys and hobbies, and travel and tourism.
Eating is sorted the same way: cafés and sweets, chocolate and confectionery, fast food, restaurants, and coffee roasteries.
New this month
Two openings are announced on the mall’s own page: Qinwan, in The Forum, and Zaatar W Zeit, in Grand Avenue at the Galleria. Both are worth knowing about if you visit often enough that the usual options have stopped being interesting.
If you are staying over
Two hotels sit within the complex and are listed on its site: Waldorf Astoria Kuwait and Hilton Garden Inn Kuwait. That matters more to a visitor than to a resident, but it explains why the place stays busy so late.
One practical note for an evening visit: park at the end nearest whatever you actually came for. The car parks ring the building, and arriving at the wrong side means a long walk before the evening begins.
