A guided tour of the Grand Mosque is not something you arrange at the door. It runs on a form on the Ministry of Awqaf website, with fixed time slots and a choice of languages. And the form is not one form but three, each for a different kind of visitor. Fill in the wrong one and you wait for a reply that never comes.
Three forms, not one
The government services portal of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs lists three separate tour services:
- Field tour for individuals. This is the form for a family or a single visitor.
- Field tour for schools and clubs. It asks for the school stage, the school name, the supervisor’s name and number, and the number of students.
- Field tour for government and non-government bodies. For delegations and institutions.
A fourth service is separate from tours altogether: booking a hall inside the Grand Mosque.
The time slots differ from one form to the next
This detail is not stated anywhere else, and it changes how you plan:
- Individuals: seven slots — 9:00, 10:00 and 11:00 in the morning, then 4:30, 5:00, 5:30 and 6:00 in the evening.
- Schools and clubs: ten slots — the same list plus 9:30 and 10:30 in the morning and 4:00 in the evening.
Tours run Sunday to Thursday. For a day or a time outside that list, the ministry asks you to write to zeyarat.fm@awqaf.gov.kw or message 22342367 on WhatsApp.
Three languages, and a tour that stretches
The language field offers three options: Arabic, English and French. The form also asks for the visitor’s country and the size of the group, and includes a box for special requests.
The ministry puts the length of the tour at 45 to 90 minutes. Anyone planning around half an hour has underestimated it by half.
A rule that saves you waiting
The ministry states in the form’s own conditions that submitting the form counts as confirmation of the booking, unless someone contacts you to say otherwise. In other words, do not sit waiting for an acceptance message. Silence here means the slot is yours.
Professional photography has its own number
Professional photography inside the mosque does not go through the tour form. The ministry directs it to 22980800. The Grand Mosque’s general number is 1810111.
Before you book
- Book on the right form: a family goes on the individuals form, a school trip on the schools and clubs form.
- Budget an hour and a half, not half an hour.
- For a Friday or Saturday, the route is email or WhatsApp, not the form.
- If anyone in the group does not speak Arabic, choose the tour language when you book, not when you arrive.
