Sahel named the Gulf’s best government app, and its newborn service wins too
Seven steps, from naming a baby to the birth allowance, done in one flow without visiting any office.
Kuwait’s government app Sahel has won Best Comprehensive Government App at the seventh GCC Digital Government Award, held in Bahrain this week, and its Newborn Journey service took the excellence award for best government digital service. The app’s executive committee announced the wins to the Kuwait News Agency on Friday 30 October.
Committee chair Colonel Bashar Al-Sayed Hashem said Sahel now brings together services from 42 government bodies in one place.
What the Newborn Journey does
If you have a Kuwaiti baby, the Newborn Journey chains the paperwork together inside Sahel, so you finish each step in order without visiting an office or typing the same details twice. Births have been registered electronically at every government and private hospital since the service launched in April 2025.
- Name the baby.
- Issue the civil number.
- Issue the birth certificate.
- Add the baby to the family’s nationality file.
- Apply for the civil ID card.
- Add the baby to the ration card (optional).
- Apply for the child allowance (optional).
Each step hands its data to the next automatically. At launch, Sahel’s spokesman said a later phase would add the baby’s passport and reminders for vaccination dates.
