Art Space, the studio inside the Scientific Center in Salmiya, has opened its September calendar for booking. Twelve adult workshops, each with dates fixed in advance, and materials included in every price. Prices start at fifteen dinars and top out at seventy-five.
What emerges once you gather all the dates in one place: the studio runs on a fixed weekly rhythm by day of the week, not on an arbitrary schedule.
The weekly rhythm
- Tuesday — pencil portraiture: 1, 8, 15 and 22 September, 15 dinars.
- Wednesday — oils for beginners: 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 September, 6 to 8 in the evening, 20 dinars.
- Friday — mosaic: 4, 11 and 18 September, 25 dinars.
- Saturday — texture painting: 5, 12 and 19 September, 20 dinars.
- Sunday — pencil drawing basics: 6, 13 and 20 September, 15 dinars.
The ones running once or twice
These are the ones you miss if you do not watch the date:
- Stained glass for beginners — Saturday 5 September only, 4 to 8 in the evening. Four continuous hours covering cutting, shaping, foiling, soldering and assembly. 75 dinars, the longest and most expensive on the list, with no second date in the month.
- Macramé belt — Saturday 5 and Saturday 19 September, 5 to 7 in the evening, 18 dinars.
- Watercolour — Tuesday 8 and Saturday 12 September, 25 dinars, built around summer landscapes.
- Crochet bottle holder — Thursday 10 and Tuesday 22 September, 25 dinars.
- Macramé wall hanging — Friday 11 September, 20 dinars.
- Macramé bag — Friday 18 September, 20 dinars.
- Crochet granny square for beginners — Friday 18 September, 50 dinars. The slowest and most thorough of the crochet workshops; anyone wanting to continue can take a five-session package at 85 dinars.
Two days worth noting
Saturday 5 September is the busiest day of the month: three different workshops on the same day — stained glass, texture painting and the macramé belt. Friday 18 September also carries three: mosaic, the macramé bag and the crochet granny square.
Useful before booking
The time does not appear in the shop until you pick a date, so anyone opening a workshop page and seeing an empty time field has not done anything wrong. Only the available dates are clickable in the calendar; the rest of the month is closed. And the times are not all evening: some sessions start at 11 in the morning and end at 1.
The studio is inside the Scientific Center in Salmiya and works two shifts: 10 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon, and 5 to 9 in the evening. Booking is through the studio’s shop at artspace-kw.com, and not by direct message.
For children there are four standing programmes: the calligraphy club, the summer camp in three courses, an art birthday party for ages four and above, and a free-expression Saturday for the same age. Prices for those four appear when you select an option inside each programme rather than in the list.
